we finally managed to leave behind the vivid city of la paz. the path over the altiplano brought us to copacabana at the splendid lake titicaca (not to confuse with the famous beach in brazil, which has certainly a much warmer climate). from there we got a boat to the historical sun-island and hiked all around it - beautiful! next we crossed the border to peru, cycled to cusco and visited on the way the floating islands, some colorful markets and many chicken-roast-places. now we are going to visit the ruins of the sacred valley around cusco. we can’t miss machu picchu - the magic inca-site.
18.09.05 - la paz (bolivia)
in rurrenabaque we felt almost like in asia and enjoyed the warm climate of the jungle around 100m over sea level. during our 3-day canoe-trip in the pampa (grassy plain) we’ve seen innumerable alligators - this did not stop us of having a swim and look for piranhas and riverdolphins. than we "bumped" back by bus to la paz over the most dangerous road of the world in the yungas. unfortunately we had to turn back on the mountain of huayna potosà (6088m) because the danger of avalanches was too big (this was only 300 meters below the summit!). here in la paz we are enjoying the busy beat of the bolivianos and are always on the go too - it’s a pity that it’s so rainy. we celebrated brö’s birthday with other swiss people, german beer and "kässpätzle" - great! soon we are heading north to the lake titicaca.
28.08.05 - la paz (bolivien)
we’ve been travelling since almost a month in bolivia and are fascinated by this culture and the native people. after having the pleasure of getting to know bolivians gastrointestinal-bacterias as well, we’ve cycled in five days from potosà to uyuni (for only 220km - you can imagine the bad conditions of the roads). than we’ve crossed the marvellous salt flat of uyuni. finally we’ve reached the paved road after more than 10 days dirt- and gravelroads with a lot of corrugations - what a relief! fortunately, brös knee is back to normal. it’s freezing cold but incredibly beautiful on bolivias altiplano. our next destination is the amazonas.
